It’s episode 164 with Mitch Johnson, best-selling writer of middle grade fiction books that combine big social and environmental themes with fast-paced page turning adventure. We chatted about Mitch’s path to publication, some of his favourite childhood books and why he’s moved from being a pantser to a planner.
After graduating from the University of East Anglia with an award-winning degree in English Literature with Creative Writing, Mitch completed Kick, his debut novel for middle grade readers. Endorsed by Amnesty International UK for its portrayal of children’s rights, Kick also received the 2018 Branford Boase Award.
In between writing, Mitch works as a Waterstones bookseller in Norwich where he lives with his wife and children. His latest novel, Spark is out right now, everywhere you can find good books.
